Bacon-Wrapped Apples

We chose Red Delicious Apples to make this happen, for their sweet flavor, sturdy texture, and beautiful skins. You should use whichever apples you like the best, however.

Serve these salty-sweet treats as a side dish, an appetizer, or even a dessert with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Yield: 16 pieces , Prep time: 15 minutes , Cook time: 15 minutes

1. Preheat your oven for 450 degrees.
2. Prep your ingredients: halve each slice of bacon, and core and cut the apples into 8 equal slices each. Wrap each slice of apple with a piece of bacon and tack in place with toothpicks.
3. Place your assembled apple slices on a parchment-lined cookie sheet and bake 15 minutes, or until the bacon browns and crisps. *The length of bake time is determined by the thickness of the bacon.  (You can either cook them completely and them serve them right out of the oven or you can precook them and then crisp them up on the grill just before serving.) Drain when they come out of the oven and before serving.
4. For the sauce, place the butter and thyme in a cold pan and bring to medium-low heat. When the butter has browned, remove the sprigs of thyme, and drizzle over the apples to serve right away.
