Sweet Potato Biscuits

We love using warming spices like nutmeg, cinnamon, and clove because they can be either sweet or savory. But, if you want to make this more savory, add dried chipotle powder in place of the nutmeg and brush the tops of the biscuits with melted salted butter before they bake.

Yield: 8-12 , Prep time: 10 minutes , Cook time: 15 minutes

1. Preheat the oven to 450.
2. In a mixing bowl combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, nutmeg, salt, and cream of tartar.
3. Using your hand, break the shortening into the flour mixture. Next, add the sweet potato puree and mix in with your hands. Stir in the cream until it comes together as dough.
4. Empty the bowl onto a counter top and press dough to a 1/2-inch thickness; cut out biscuits.
5. Place in baking dish and into the oven for 12-15 minutes, until the tops are golden brown and the sides of the biscuits are no longer doughy.

Tips + Tricks

**To make this recipe a bit easier, I pureed canned sweet potatoes in a light syrup. If you have roasted sweet potatoes left over, you can easily use those as well.
